What Are Slab Engineering Plans?
Slab engineering plans are prepared by a structural engineer and provide the instructions for how your home's concrete slab is to be built.
These plans are different from your architectural plans. They include the engineering requirements used by your builder during construction and by your building inspector during a pre-slab inspection.

Site classification (for example H1, H2, M or another classification)
Foundation design
Engineering notes
Project information
This page tells the builder how the slab has been designed to suit the soil conditions on your site.

You don't need to understand these pages in detail—they're simply part of the engineering package prepared for your home.

This is the page most homeowners are looking for.
The main slab engineering plan shows the layout of your slab and where everything is designed to go.
You'll usually see things such as:
Edge beams
Internal beams
Slab piers
Waffle pod layout (if applicable)
Beam labels
Section references
Dimensions
This is one of the main drawings your building inspector refers to during a pre-slab inspection to compare the slab preparation with the engineer's design before concrete is poured.

After the main slab engineering plan, you'll usually find several pages showing enlarged section details.
These drawings provide a closer look at specific parts of the slab and may include:

Reinforcement requirements
