Discover what to expect during the frame stage of your new home construction journey.
Why Your Frame Stage Inspection Is Essential — And How BSPI Can Help
You’re entering the most critical phases in your build: Slab Completion & Frame Preparation, Frame Carpentry & Truss Installation, and the subsequent External wall linings Stage. Getting these right now saves time, money, and headaches later—so let’s break down each step, the questions to ask, and why BSPI Inspections should be by your side.

1. Slab Completion & Frame Preparation
Concreters level, screed, and trowel the slab then allow it to cure.
Builder arranges termite barrier around slab edges.
2. Frame Carpentry & Roof Trusses
Wall Framing: Carpenters erect structural frame walls, install vertical studs, top and bottom plates, and internal noggings.
Double Top Plates & Tie‑Downs: Ensure load distribution and secure walls to slab.
Roof Trusses: Roof trusses are lifted and secured to the top plates—forming the skeleton of your roof.
Temporary Bracing: Critical bracing holds walls and trusses plumb during construction.
Builder Invoice: Once framing and trusses are in place, your builder will issue the Frame Stage invoice.
3. Roof & External Wrap
Certifier signs off on frame, then installers fit fascias, gutters, battens, and roof covering.
Carpenters complete windows, doors, and all external framing elements.
4. Pre‑Sheeting Rough‑Ins
Plumbers, electricians, gasfitters, and air‑con technicians run pipes, wires, and ducts before walls are sheeted.
This early access ensures all hidden services are correctly positioned and compliant.
5. BSPI Frame Check: Your Last Clear View
This is your best—and often only—chance to catch issues before gyprock hides them. BSPI checks:
Plumb, level, and straightness of walls and frames
Frames are correct and as per plan and tot he national code
Correct nail spacing, bracing, noggings, and tie‑downs
Proper installation of wall wrap, and damp‑proof courses
Alignment and fit of windows and door frames
6. Brick & External Cladding Stage
Bricklayers install exterior brickwork—ensuring consistent mortar joints and alignment.
External cladding (e.g., weatherboard, fiber cement) is fixed; soffits are addressed later.
This completes the Enclosed stage the builder will be sending his invoice.
Key Questions to Ask Your Builder
“Can BSPI attend just before gyprock goes on?”
“Is the black plastic membrane properly fixed against the slab?”
“When is the certifier scheduled, have we received our form 16?”
